Tokyo
travel guide
I visited Tokyo back in 2017 BC (before covid) and it was a trip I will never forget. I dreamt about this city for months even after the trip. This magical futuristic city is opening once again after a long time-out. If my memory serves me well, here are some of my standout places that you should definitely add to your travel list!
what to see / do:
Walk the Shibuya crosswalk, this intersection is iconic. You’ll recognize it from movies and documentaries. It is the most highly trafficked pedestrian crosswalk in the world with as many as 30k people crossing it in a single day!
Shinjuku karaoke bars, 🎤 the karaoke bars here are several stories HIGH! You get access to a private room, a rack of silly onesie costumes to dress up in, and all the ballads you could sing your heart to. Make sure you bring the right friends with you! so much fun!
Tokyo tower 🗼 is the bright orange colored viewing deck with a very similar design to the Eiffel Tower. fun hello kitty shops located on the ground level.
Sky tree is the tallest viewing deck in all of Japan, another place to see Tokyo with an eagle eye.
Tokyo metropolitan tower is a beautiful architectural government building worth admiring.
Asakusa - Buddhist temple, meditate & feel the serenity of the place.
Meiji Jingu - a shrine dedicated to the late Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken ⛩
Zojuji temple - near the Tokyo tower, this temple monument is the final resting place of six Japanese shoguns.
Ginza - the Rodeo Drive of Tokyo, has all the designer shops you can think of. 🛍
Explore all the color and quirks of Harajuku / the bliss-inducing owl cafe can be found here.🦉
where to eat / drink:
Sushi no idori one of the best reviewed sushi restaurants with reasonable prices and great service. 🍣
Sushi zanmai - in the tsukiji fish market (pro-tip: if you would like to see the bustle and buzz of the market, go early in the morning! they close it pretty early in the day) 🍣
Ghibili museum has all the work of the Ghibili Studio in once place. Come say hi to Totoro!
Konjiki hototogisu ramen - Michelin star rated and just one of the hundreds of delicious ramen places in japan.
Harry hedgehog cafe in roppongi, have a treat and share one with a little hedge hog. they treat the animals fairly by giving them plenty of rest and space to play in their spacious little hedgehog homes. 🦔
Golden Gai is diagon alley of tokyo, its kind of hidden but once you find it, you’ll uncover so many quirky little bars stacked on top one another. watch your head in some of these places, they are pretty small but pack a punch!
